Crematorium hosts service for Baby Loss Awareness Week
Great Glen Crematorium is hosting a special memorial service next month to bring people together to remember, reflect and celebrate the lives of children who have died or were born asleep.
The Forever Loved service will take place on Monday 9 October at 6pm and has been organised as part of Baby Loss Awareness Week, which starts the same day.
Those who attend will have the opportunity to light a candle in memory of loved ones they have lost and write a personal message on a tag which will be added to a special remembrance tree.
Following the service, the tree will be placed in the crematorium’s waiting room for the whole of Baby Loss Awareness Week, which runs until 15 October.
Great Glen Crematorium is part of Westerleigh Group, one of the UK’s largest independent owners and operators of crematoria and cemeteries, with 39 sites in England, Scotland, and Wales, all set within beautifully landscaped gardens of remembrance which provide pleasant, tranquil places for people to visit and reflect.
Manager Aleksandra Harris said: “According to the charity Tommy’s, one in four people in the UK experience pregnancy or baby loss.
“At Great Glen Crematorium, we are not just here to support the bereaved in saying their final farewells to a loved one.
“Memorialisation – remembering and honouring those who have been lost – is a big part of what we do and how we help provide comfort and long-term support to the bereaved.
“An event like this special memorial service is just one way in which we provide that exceptional care.
“Losing a baby is a heart-breaking experience for any family and it can be a source of comfort to come together with others who have been going through something similar.
“This is a free service for anyone who wants to come, but it would really help us if we had an idea of how many people might be attending. For that reason, we would request that people let us know in advance, by phone, email or popping into our office.
“You do not have to have held a service at Great Glen Crematorium in the past in order to attend; our doors are open to anyone in the area who feel they may benefit from coming to this service.”
Anyone interested in attending can visit Great Glen Crematorium, call them on 0116 259 1101 or email GreatGlen@westerleighgroup.co.uk
